More Vista rubbish

I'm sure there'll be plenty more of this if I keep using it. This morning's fun; PowerDVD 6 doesn't run. Apparently it now has "known compatibility issues" and crashed. Right?! So no dvd programs. Next on the list is WinRAR which seems unable to create program shortcuts as it's using their own installer. I can live without shortcuts. Last one this morning is Nero 7. "Known compatibility issues" again. So I won't have any burning software for my laptop now? Wow, the installer crashed. I think I will just reimage back to XP that doesn't have all these stupid problems. Maybe I can use Vista in a few years when people have destroyed it enough that it works.
I guess that these problems were introduced trying to make the OS 'more secure', yet they didn't bother patch the "known issue" that a cursor file on a webpage could destroy your install of Windows.
Muppets. How do they expect people to pay for this when you can get another OS for free that doesn't run any of your programs either. I'd rather spend the time and effort getting things to run on Linux rather than Vista.
My advice to everyone. Don't buy Vista!.
What a joke!

They probably don't expect people to buy it. It will just ship with every new computer, so most of the world will end up using it shortly.

Not if all your expensive software fails to run. Everyone will be saving the XP licence stickers off their old pc to save buying every piece of software new.

You can run powerdvd in compatibility mode.
If you run the WinRar installer in administrative mode, it installs fine. I'm surprised you didn't notice that you can't actually extract files from WinRar unless you edit the program properties to make it always run in administrative mode.
Nero was average at best anyways. CDBurnerXP works. So at least you can burn CDs.
The downside to vista is that they changed an a keyboard shortcut in Windows Explorer that has been consistant since 95. Backspace no longer goes to the parent directory. It goes "back". Why do you need a back button in a file explorer? In their infinite wisdom, they changed it to alt-up. Microsoft's official response. "The explorer bar has been redesigned. It's much more powerful now."
I fail to see what relevance that has to do with anything. Until the shortcut is fixed, I'm sticking with OSX.

WinRAR installs and runs fine in admin mode. Just doesnt create the program files shortcuts in the start menu. Just a blank folder. Nero 6.x was good but after that it ended up with heaps of other shit that no one wants. Going to see if 6.6 installs. Which would be easier if 7 wasn't stuck in limbo.
Also, people shouldn't be reading my site. That's not the point of it.

I got an upgrade for free with my laptop- bought in December- but have no plans to install it. The way I see it why invite the headache?

*wonders if there are still people out there using windows 95 because 98 was unstable, had no new features they'd use and made half their programs not work*

Probably. As windows 98 added no features except the ability to blue screen a dozen times and recover. Besides, Windows 95 ran Unreal Tournament, what more do you need?

Or I could use the XP licence I already have and just miss out on the silly windows key + tab thing that I never use anyway.
