Lens testing
In category General on 26 Nov 2006 @ 12:49 pm
Yesterday Thei and I went to Indro for breakfast / lunch where I had the waitress at the cafe come and ask me questions about my camera. After we'd eaten (probably too much), we decided to go and see if the camera store downstairs had any of the more specialty lenses in stock for us to look at. I was interested in the 10-22mm ultra wide angle which it turns out was in stock. Easiest thing to do was to put that on my camera and take a few photos to test. It was the weirdest feeling. It was like looking through the camera was taking 3 steps backwards. Although this doesn't really show what it was like unless you know the store.. /users/maz/journal/files/1164544856.sIMG_8358.jpg

They also had a 70 - 300mm IS lens (it was either EF or EFS series though, not L) which looked ok. This is 70mm, you can see the where this one fits into the wide angle photo. /users/maz/journal/files/1164544987.sIMG_8361.jpg
Then 300mm of the same thing. Geez IS is useful here..

The final lens they had that was interesting was a $700 macro lens. I think it was 60mm but I'd have to ask Thei. Here is a photo of a finger as big as it can get..

Not bad. The depth of field must be like 1mm in that photo. Pretty awesome. I'm not into macro so much but if someone else bought it then I'd definitely have a go. Looks like I'm going to have to just stick with what I have until April next year at least.
It was still fun.

Do you think it's a security concern having a close-up of my fingerprint online?

I imagine not. If someone wanted your fingerprint that would only get them one and be no practical use in places that you're not. If you want to be that paranoid then you might not want to hold onto a glass or anything when you're out.
