The value of an I.T. degree

As some of you might know, I'm about to complete, *fingers crossed* my I.T. degree so I'm trying to find a full-time job to move into. There's a lot of work available in the IT sector even if it is help desk and support work and an IT degree would mean I'd easilly get the job right?
Wrong!
An IT degree apparently means I'm over-qualified for support and admin jobs and employers seem to think that I'll quit within a few weeks when I find a better job so that's no use. So apply for better jobs right?
Wrong again!
Nearly every better job requires 2-3 years commercial experience. Developer? Well I've written my own website CMS from scratch in PHP, use a lot of my own custom written programs, I have a real passion for problem solving and innovative solutions.. No, I haven't had a job like this before... Bye.. An IT degree is worthless without commercial experience which is impossible to get without commercial experience.
So what positions am I meant to be applying for? I'm not sure anymore but I'm starting to wonder if I'd have more luck by not telling employers that I have an IT degree.
Woefully Maz
