Today I had an interesting adventure to the north coast. Sef's parents needed some help installing a couple of 5000 gallon water tanks. The delivery truck left them at the top of their steep driveway because apparently if they drove down the hill to unload them there wouldn't be enough weight on the drive wheels of the truck and it wouldn't be able to get back up. When this trip was first mentioned I suggested they get a ute and rest the tank behind that and roll down the hill using the ute for brakes. By the time I got there I saw the plan in action as a 4-cylinder front wheel drive sedan with a trailer. The 2 water tanks had a diameter of about 3 metres and the trailer can't have been much more than a metre off the ground so that any sudden stops made the tank try roll up onto the trailer and at one point had the back suspension of the car lifted to it's limits. To add to the excitement there was also some torrential rain falling and it was quickly getting dark.

It took us about 2 and a half hours to get the first tank to the bottom of the hill, put it the right way up and slide it into place. They were exceptionally heavy and we had a lot of learning experiences with this first one. By the time we were ready to start getting the second water tank it was completely dark and enough rain had fallen to leave a couple of inches of water in the bottom of the tank through just the strainer (about a 12 inch opening). Well by this time we were wet all the way through and weren't so worried about staying dry and could just concentrate on getting the job done right. Including not getting the wood we were using as rails stuck underneath the water tanks final resting position and having the outlet on the correct side. A job well done at about 8:30pm.

Sef's parents bought us pizza for dinner and put our clothes through the dryer before we drove back to Brisbane in pretty heavy rain.

Can’t wait until they need to upgrade to larger tanks…
