Fixed media center
In category General on 07 Nov 2008 @ 12:43 am
I ended up having to reinstall XP from scratch just to reset the stupid suspend state profiles. Even deleting the HAL didnt work. Anyway. The end result is a fantastically working media center that is still responsive, (unlike Vista running on the 5700Ultra). My final problem is to get the nVidia card to do DVI by default. So if anyone does know how to either reset the XP power stuff or force a card with VGA and DVI to default to DVI when it detects nothing is plugged in, please do leave a comment. I havent managed to find anything on the internet so far.

And finally, here is a picture of the final result:

P.S. Please excuse the lack of single quotes as my hosting company seems to by trying to piss me off again and changed the setting.

nVidia drivers just wrecked my media center
In category Geebin on 02 Nov 2008 @ 03:49 am
Not to mention their shit hardware. My new LCD tv apparently doesn\'t do the handshake to tell the video card what output is being used. So the nVidia cards (I tried 2, a FX5200 and a FX5700 Ultra) both disable DVI and the VGA. I haven\'t checked to see if tv out is disabled but who could be fucking surprised. But wai, there\'s still more. Installing the nVidia drivers gives me no suspend states. This PC can no longer suspend ever. I\'ll have to wipe out windows and reinstall from scratch. WITHOUT NVIDIA DRIVERS. Uninstalling the nVidia drives now just means windows says it can\'t find drivers for my VGA card (despite the fact that it fucking had some this morning) AND I still can\'t suspend the pc. Basically I went wrong by using nvidia for my media center pc. Which is a shame because I have 4 nvidia cards here to use.

So, in summary. IF YOU DON\'T HAVE ANY DISPLAY PROBLEMS, DON\'T CHANGE YOUR NVIDIA DRIVERS AT ALL. THEY\'LL JUST FUCK UP YOUR PC.

Unfortunately this isn\'t news, nVidia drivers have always been shit. Hardly seems worth the effort just to play videos tho. I\'m sure ATI can manage.

In category General on 26 Oct 2008 @ 02:33 am
I got a new phone Thursday night so here are some pics. They are a bit blurry etc because it is late and I am just lazy.

Anyway, here are some links to reviews, the xda-dev site and then some photos.

Cheerio, Maz.

Where are my severe storms?
In category General on 21 Sep 2008 @ 09:31 pm
It\'s another severe storm warning but the damn things keep packing it up before they hit Brisbane. The one last night went both North and South of me and tonight it just went North. Anyway I was on the rooftop of Indooroopilly shopping center and managed a couple of photos. May as well put them up.
Goodnight.

My ADSL lost sync at lunch time yesterday. 24 hours later and it\'s still down. So here is my token update for the month.

So whats new with everyone out there in the interweb?
